History
Dalmatians are an
ancient breed - some say going as far back as Egyptian times. They have
been popular for hundreds of years, and were often used as
"carriage dogs" to run alongside horse drawn carriages and
help keep the horses calm.
Positives
The Dalmatian is an
ideal family dog. He is friendly and sociable to people and other
household pets, almost without exception.
Negatives
As for many pure
bred dogs, pure bred Dalmatians can be
prone to a range of genetic problems brought about due to in-breeding.
Puppy buyers should ensure they see both parents of any puppies they buy
and that the parents are healthy. If in doubt,
ask your veterinarian for further advice prior to purchasing.
