There are also
White Collies, with tri-coloured or sable heads, depending on what
colour collies were involved in the mating. The White Collie however
is not a recognised colour in Australia and New Zealand. The United
States does recognise the White collie, where they
are bred and shown; they also have an official White Collie Club.
Sable and White
collies range in colour -from Golden sables, through to rich
mahogany, shaded sables, or black-tipped sables - due to tri-factor
i.e from a mating with a tri-colour.

| History The Collie is thought to have originated as a cross between the dogs of the invading Romans and those of the native Scottish shepherds. The two sub-types (Rough and Smooth Coat) that have subsequently developed are used for different aspects of livestock work. |
